Two men from different worlds are drawn together when a suicide bombing claims the lives of their daughters. One is Joseph Adams, a lawyer from the poor Tauron colony who hides his ethnic background in a racially tense environment and also lost his wife to the terrorist attack, leaving him to raise his young son alone. The other is Daniel Graystone, a rich and brilliant scientist native to the industrious planet Caprica who discovers that his daughter's consciousness lives on in an online avatar she made before her death. Initially united in grief, the two maybe driven apart by how far Graystone goes to return his daughter to the world.

In the wake of the MAGLEV bombing that killed his daughter, Daniel Graystone plunges himself into work. He tries to figure out why he can only create a single intelligent robot, not understanding that the answer lies within the fact that part of his daughter survived the explosion and is closer to him than he could imagine. Consumed with grief, Amanda Graystone is obsessed with discovering who her daughter really was, and slowly begins piecing together the details of Zoe's life.

Following Amanda's public revelation that their daughter was responsible for the MAGLEV tragedy, the Graystones must face the wrath of angry Capricans. For Daniel, this includes a confrontation with Sam and Joseph Adama, in which Joseph demands that Daniel reunite him with his daughter's avatar. Daniel also realizes he can't deal with his grief in private -- this is all going to play out on a public stage.

Daniel attempts to defend himself and his company on a popular talk show, and also plans to distance himself from Zoe, which would alienate Amanda

Joseph Adama reaches out to his son, while his daughter Tamara finds a new side of the virtual world. Daniel suggests a product for Graystone Industries.

Company rival Tomas Vergis confronts Daniel over the theft of the meta-cognitive processor and the two workers who were murdered in the robbery. However, his means of revenge aren't quite what Daniel expects. Keon takes Lacy to meet Barnabas Greeley, leader of the Soldiers of the One. Troubled over the work he's been doing with the STO, Clarice hopes to gain attention by presenting the Zoe avatar and sets course by taking it directly from Daniel's lab.

With Zoe's avatar still out of reach, Clarice keeps up her ruse of providing a shoulder for Amanda, especially when she begins seeing her dead brother, which Clarice interprets to be a part of something bigger. Joseph dives into New Cap City to find Tamara, as Zoe continues to court Philo to help get her robotic body off-world, but may wind up helping Daniel who is still being hounded by Vergis to sell the Buccaneers.

Daniel is beginning to suspect that Zoe-Avatar is in the robot, but his pleas for his daughter to reveal herself go ignored. In an effort to flush her out, he launches a campaign of psychological torture, resulting in escalating tests that force Zoe into a choice she cannot take back.

When Daniel finally sets a deadline for resetting the U-87 Cylon, and unknowingly ending Zoe's existence as she knows it, she makes a desperate attempt to save herself. But when her plan backfires, she finds herself out of time and out of options. Furious with a recent comeuppance, Barnabas ignites his feud with Clarice into an all-out war. Trapped in the middle is Lacy, who is forced to make a decision she may regret forever. Daniel makes a confession to an already reeling Amanda that sends her over the edge.

Having lost both his wife and company, Daniel approaches the Ha'la'tha with a deal to capitalise on virtual avatars as a means of defeating grief. Clarice pitches her plan for apotheosis to the doubtful leadership on Gemenon.

Sister Clarice ruthlessly wields her new power as head of the Caprican STO as she aims to finish her war with Barnabas once and for all. Agent Duram helps Amanda make an alarming discovery.

Zoe's search for Tamara within the cruel V-World comes to an end as Zoe is shocked to see what Tamara has become. Lacy struggles to keep Zoe's secrets amidst Clarice's physical and psychological torture. The conflict between Daniel and Vergis comes to a violent head.

Sam Adama's illegal gun trade puts his life in danger, as he turns to an unlikely ally for assistance. Daniel's involvement with the Ha'La'Tha deepens.

Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) is a computer genius and a prominent businessman in the Twelve Colonies. His wife Amanda Graystone (Paula Malcolmson) is an elite neurosurgeon. Joseph A dama (Esai Morales) is an immigrant a lawyer with ties to the mob and a father desperate to reconnect with his estranged son William (Sina Najafi). Bound and then divided by tragedy their bitter rivalry brings the end of life as they know it.

In a flashback to the first Tauron Uprising years ago, "Herac" troops storm the Adama home to investigate the murder of a Herac soldier. When a gun stolen by young Sam is found on the premises, William Adama Sr. is brutally beaten; in another room the same is done to his wife, who is then executed.

Amanda and Daniel Graystone decide to search for Zoe in V-World, but argue over who should go first; Amanda wants to apologize for slapping her daughter - the last interaction between them before her death, but Daniel admits to his wife that he played upon Zoe's fear of fire when she was in the U87 robot and she may not be willing to meet either of them. Amanda slaps Daniel in anger.

The Graystones enter V-World and reunite with Zoe. Clarice and her husbands break into the Graystone residence, planning to kill the Graystones and retrieve the holoband. The Guatrau attempts to kill the Adamas and, after a brief but violent struggle in Sam's bar involving Sam and Joseph and a number of the Guatraus' men, William Adama is fatally wounded with a gunshot through his hand and into his abdomen

Clarice attempts her master plan to achieve apotheosis. In the aftermath of her failed attempt to kill the Graystones and retrieve her holoband, GDD Director Gara Singh approaches Clarice and tells her who he is at the GDD and in V-world. Singh informs Clarice that he's going to slow down the Graystones by falsely telling the world that they are the terrorists that put Zoe up to the Maglev train bombing.
